RESOURCES

Dedicated coaches are such an important asset to the Alabama Cycling Association mountain bike teams. Team coaches put riding safety and overall well-being of student-athletes as their first priority. Coaches are teachers to the kids but also students who are open to learning the best practices of youth mountain bike coaching. They actively work to hone their riding and leadership skills. Parents who enjoy mountain bike riding should consider getting a coaching license so you can ride with the team and help guide all the students, not just your own.

How do I become a licensed mountain bike coach?

It’s not hard to become a mountain bike coach. All coaches are required to obtain a coach’s license at one of three levels:

Level 1 – Assists all coaches as directed by the head coach.

Level 2 – Assists Level 3 coaches with advanced tasks such as leading rides.

Level 3 – Takes a leadership role within the team. Equivalent competencies as head coach.

Level 1 coaching certification is the minimum requirement to ride with the team and coach student-athletes. Most Level 1 requirements are offered online. A background check is the first step to become a coach. Online classes such as Concussion Training, Abuse Awareness & Prevention Training are also required to get the Level 1 certification. The ACA offers first aid classes and coaching skills classes every year to ensure coaches understand safety protocols while on the trail in case accidents occur.

To start the licensing process, register a new account on the CCNBikes.com website. Select your team from the dropdown menu. You will need the team pass code which you can get from your head coach or your team director.
